Senex Energy Wandoan Rodeo attracts the cream of the crop

THE move to make the Wandoan Rodeo a part of the Australian Professional Rodeo Association’s (APRA) rodeo circuit continues to pay off in its second year with the event attracting some of Australia’s best competitors and most challenging stock.

Senex Energy was proudly back on board as major sponsor for the 5 November rodeo.

The standard was lifted when well known competitors like Dallas Hay and Damien Brennan who have been on the North American rodeo circuit and were back in the country for the Australian Rodeo Finals.

Committee member Sharna Worsfold said the committee was delighted with the calibre of the competitors and stock.

“We really have experienced a jump in quality these last few years with the best in the country showing up to compete on this APRA circuit event,” she said.

“It’s amazing to see these men and women and is a really great example for the younger people competing because it shows them that if they keep trying, they could also end up here.

“It’s also inspiring for young people starting out to be able to see their heroes and how they prepare and compete.

“It gives them something to aim for themselves.”

The move paid off for Dallas Hay who won the Bareback Bronc Ride with a score of 79, well ahead of second placegetter Jeb Myles who scored 74.5.

Senex Community Relations Manager Trevor Robertson said the rodeo is a staple on Wandoan’s calendar and was a great opportunity for the community to see elite competitors in its own town.

“Senex is once again proud to have been Platinum Sponsor of the Wandoan APRA Rodeo and to see this event go from strength to strength,” he said.

“It’s a credit to the hard work the committee and volunteers have done in the months leading up to the day.

“The rodeo is about so much more than just an opportunity for people to compete.

“It brings new people to Wandoan which boosts the economy, it gives locals an opportunity to catch up and the profits will go to Wandoan Kindy, Wandoan Housing Association Inc and RACQ Life Flight Rescue.

“These three organisations provide so much for the community in different ways, but their work would be impossible without funding so Senex is delighted to see the rodeo supporting them in turn.”
