Roma North gas processing facility expansion begins

Senex Energy welcomes the start of a $15 million expansion of the Roma North natural gas processing facility in Queensland’s Maranoa region as it works towards tripling natural gas production by 2025.

Senex Energy’s infrastructure partner, Jemena, has awarded the construction contract to Queensland based Wasco Australia.

About 40 jobs will be created during the project and more than $500,000 spent on local goods and services in the Maranoa region including transport, accommodation and trades.

Senex Managing Director and CEO Ian Davies said the project would increase the capacity of the facility 50 per cent as the company increased supplies of natural gas from the Surat Basin.

Senex created 250 construction jobs and invested $400 million in completing the company’s initial Atlas and Roma North projects in the Surat Basin during the past two years, benefiting more than 50 businesses in the region.

“Senex is proud to have begun its next phase of growth to deliver more affordable and reliable energy to Queensland and support manufacturing and local jobs,” Mr Davies said.

Wasco Australia Managing Director Mel Whyte said: “We’re excited to be working on the expansion of the Roma North Gas Processing Facility, which comes after we were appointed by Senex to construct the compressor facility and an export pipeline in 2019. It is fantastic to see Jemena continuing to award contracts like this to local businesses.”

Jemena Executive General Manager of Gas Markets Antoon Boey said Wasco Australia had a proven track record in completing complex projects at gas processing facilities across the region.

“Together with our client and developer of the Roma North gas field, Senex Energy, we’re excited to partner with Wasco Australia to deliver the next stage of the Roma North Gas Processing Facility. The expansion will enable us to deliver increased flows from Senex’s Roma North gas field to market,” Mr Boey said.

Jemena acquired the Roma North facility from Senex in June 2019.
