$10,000 Senex STEM Scholarship applications open for Surat Basin students

Senex Energy is offering two Surat Basin school leavers $10,000 each to assist them in studying a STEM or STEM-related university course in 2024.

Applications are now open for the inaugural Senex STEM Scholarship and close on November 30.

The scholarship consists of two $5000 payments and the opportunity for paid in the field work and accommodation at Senex’s Wandoan or Roma sites during university breaks.

Students who have completed most or all of their schooling in the Surat Basin and will be studying a STEM field such as engineering, geology, data analytics or environmental science can apply.

Those intending to study STEM-related fields like economics and occupational health and safety may also be considered.

The STEM Scholarship was established when Senex Energy CEO Ian Davies donated the prize money from his Toowoomba Surat Basin Enterprise Leadership Award in 2021 for his leadership in Queensland’s natural gas and resources sector.

Mr Davies explained that the resources sector had always been at the forefront of embracing innovation and Senex Energy was committed to playing its part in encouraging more students to pursue STEM degrees.

“Through the Senex STEM Scholarship we can help address the growing demand for skilled professionals,” he said.

“Whether it’s in traditional fields like our gas operations or emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and biotechnology – Senex is looking to empower and support the next generation.

“I encourage all eligible Year 12 students with a passion and a plan to study STEM to apply.”

Students who graduate Year 12 this year planning to study STEM in 2024 can get more details at senex.com.au. Entries close November 30 with recipients announced in early 2024 subject to receipt and acceptance of a university offer in a STEM or STEM-related course.
