RFDS dental services extended in Wandoan due to high demands

Smiles have been aplenty in Wandoan as the free Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) (Queensland Section) Mobile Dental Clinic rolled into town thanks to support from Senex Energy.

The demand for this FREE dental service was so high that all appointments for the allocated days filled up quickly.

Seeing the demand, Senex used money it raised in partnership with Morgans Financial through their 2023 Big Dry Friday appeal, to fund a further four days to ensure even more locals could get access to the dental service.

The RFDS Dental Service visit is part of Senex’s three-year commitment to bring the Mobile Dental Services to Wandoan and Theodore.

The extra four days are in addition to the original funding announcement which provides further clinic days across both locations each year, ensuring over a hundred more patients can be seen by the RFDS’s highly skilled dental teams.

Senex has been a long-time supporter of the RFDS, investing more than one million dollars over the past decade into vital medical services in regional and rural communities.

Senex Chief Executive Officer Ian Davies said this long-term agreement provides a new and much needed health service that improves the livability and resilience of Senex’s communities of operation.

“Senex has a long and proud history of helping to keep the Flying Doctor in the air and in this case, on the ground where they’re needed most,” Mr Davies said.

“We know when you live in rural communities like Wandoan and Theodore, getting to the dentist can be difficult – but it shouldn’t be.

“It’s been heartening to see local families and children accessing the dental care they need right in their own community and not needing to travel hours away.

“Senex is proud to continue our relationship with the Flying Doctor by supporting this free dental clinic delivering positive health outcomes in the Theodore and Wandoan regions.”

Since launching more than a decade ago, the RFDS Mobile Dental Clinics have delivered over 120,000 treatments to 26 Queensland communities.

Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) (Queensland Section) Acting Executive General Manager Fundraising and Philanthropy Sebastien Krantz said the response in Wandoan to this new health service, supported by Senex Energy, has been overwhelming and is proof of its importance to the community.

“With the demand for dental services in Wandoan, we were pleased that Senex Energy and Morgans Foundation were able to join us in funding a further 4 days to ensure more locals can access these services,” Mr Krantz said.

“The RFDS is proud to partner with Senex to deliver these world class health services to those who need them.

“This generous three-year partnership will help us make a real difference to the oral health of hundreds of regional Queenslanders.

“The RFDS remains committed to ensuring equality of healthcare across the state and the support of organisations such as Senex is helping us achieve that.”
